Loci-interest -- For questions about using LoCI software

About Loci-interest
English (USA)

The list is for users' questions about LoCI, LoCI software and Logistical Networking in general. The core LoCI projects are described below:

IBP - Internet Backplane Protocol
IBP is the core of the Logistical Networking. IBP is a client/server application that allows computers to share storage space (hard drive and/or memory) to clients in the wide-area network in a scalable manner.

exNode
The exNode is a data structure (like the Unix inode) that allows IBP allocations to be chained together to for larger "network" files. It allows for arbitrary metadata and it can can also be serialized to XML for passing from one user to another.

L-Bone - Logistical Backbone
The L-Bone is a resource discovery service for IBP depots. It allows clients to query for depots meeting specific requirements including proximity to the client and other depots.

LoRS - Logistical Runtime System
The LoRS tools combine IBP, exNode adn L-Bone into a simple to use commands that find depots, allocate storage, transfer data and create exNodes.

LoDN - Logistical Distribution Network
LoDN is a web-based file system that allows users to store their exNodes. While an exNode is in LoDN, LoDN will automatically refresh the IBP allocations and create new allocations to maintain fault-tolerance. LoDN also allows users to publish their exNodes via XML or by the Java Download application via Java Web Start.

IBPvo - sort of like TiVo (r) but using IBP
This is a research application that allows users to program a vcr remotely and that stores the program data using the LoRS tools so that the user can retrieve the program remotely.
